VICAM ANNOUNCES EXPANSION OF WIDE BORE PRODUCT LINE
New test offers faster solution to vomitoxin detection
Watertown, MA (December 7, 2006) –– VICAM, a world leader in food safety testing, has made another addition to their widely popular wide bore column line. DONtestTM WB is a rapid HPLC-specific test for detecting Deoxynivalenol (DON), more commonly known as vomitoxin, in feed and grains.
DON interferes with animal growth and acceptance of feed. It has also been implicated in moldy corn toxicosis of swine and may play a role in the human disease alimentary toxic aleukia, an acute hemorrhagic syndrome that can lead to anemia and even death in severe cases. Countries worldwide are currently testing for DON with the European Union establishing limits of less than 0.2 ppm for processed cereal-based foods for infants and young children and less than 1.75 ppm for unprocessed wheat.
Using monoclonal antibody-based affinity chromatography, DONtest WB is a new HPLC-only test for the detection of DON using wide bore immunoaffinity columns. With a total volume of 3 mL, compared to the total of 1 mL in VICAM’s standard columns, this new test allows for a faster flow rate preferred by many laboratories and is the ideal cleanup step for any HPLC.
