VICAM ANNOUNCES NEW TEST FOR THE DETECTION OF TOXINS IN MILK

New test detects levels of known carcinogen quickly and accurately

Watertown, MA (July 3, 2007) –– VICAM, a world leader in food safety testing, has introduced a new test for the quick and accurate detection of Aflatoxin M1 in liquid milk. Afla M1 FL+ accurately detects the presence of aflatoxin M1 in liquid milk samples without the use of more expensive and complicated HPLC analysis.

"VICAM's Afla M1 FL+ test was developed to meet the strict demands set by European regulatory committees," said Jianmin Liu, Ph. D., Senior Scientist at VICAM and lead developer of this test. "Afla M1 FL+ is simple to use, highly sensitive and quantitative. The results are accurate and comparable to the result of HPLC analysis."

Aflatoxin M1, a known carcinogen, is found in the milk of cows who have consumed feed contaminated with aflatoxin B1, a naturally occurring mold toxin commonly found in feed. The FDA action level for aflatoxin M1 is 0.5 ppb and European Union regulatory limits are 0.5 ppb for adults and 0.25 ppb for infants.

VICAM’s Afla M1 FL+ offers a simpler and faster method of detection of aflatoxin M1 than traditional HPLC tests and more accurate results than ELISA tests. Using a fluorometer, the Afla M1 FL+ mobile resin column allows users to test for the presence of aflatoxin M1 in liquid milk in less than 25 minutes. Results are specific and accurate, providing measurement of levels as low as 12.5 ppt.
