DONtest FL+ Mycotoxin Testing System
Deoxynivalenol (DON) is also known as vomitoxin because of its impact on livestock through interference with animal growth and acceptance of feed. DON is often present with other mycotoxins and has been isolated from grains and feeds throughout the world at levels as high as 92 ppm. DON has been implicated in moldy corn toxicosis of swine and may play a role in the human disease alimentary toxic aleukia. Because of concerns about DON, many customers require levels of less than 2.0 ppm for animal feed and 1.0 ppm for commodities destined for human consumption. The United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA) advises less than 1ppm DON in finished wheat products for human consumption with levels of 5ppm and 10ppm advised for animal feeds.
